As part of the Communications and Electronics Service (CES) 78th Founding Anniversary celebration held last August 26, 2020 at Camp BGen. Rafael T. Crame, Quezon City, the Philippine National Police (PNP) CES commended the University’s efforts to aid the frontliners through its donation of 30 liters ethyl alcohol and 30 pieces of face shields to CES Regional Unit 4A.
PNP-CES described the donation as an “act of kindness and generosity” which “benefitted RCEU4A in its pursuit of giving quality public service” in a Certificate of Recognition awarded to and received by PUP President Manuel M. Muhi.
Early this year, PUP launched its system-wide response to combat COVID-19. Efforts were doubled during the nationwide quarantine wherein several relief efforts of the University were made. Forms of assistance include the production and distribution of homemade face shields, and developing an original protective helmet for frontliners, spearheaded by students of the Colleges of Engineering (CE) and Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA) to alleviate the demand of personal protective equipment (PPEs). The University’s Institute for Science and Technology Research (ISTR) led by Dr. Armin Coronado also produced local ethyl alcohol to address the dwindling supply of the product.
