University officials led the initial distribution of 220 relief bags to Taal victims currently housed at PUP Sto. Tomas Branch. The distribution was held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, two days after the volcanic eruption. Each bag contains food packs, basic medicines, bottled water, clothes and toiletries. These came from the donations of employees, faculty members, alumni and students.
The University still accepts donations (i.e. toiletries to include soap, detergent bars, toothpaste, toothbrush, toilet paper; diapers, sanitary pads, bottled water, coffee, noodles, etc.) until Friday, January 17 at the Prudente Room (4th Floor, South Wing, PUP Sta. Mesa Main Building). Relief efforts are jointly coordinated by the Extension Management Office (EMO) and the General Services Office (GSO). Parallel relief drives are also done by the Office of the Student Regent and several other student organizations.
On Sunday afternoon, Taal Volcano spewed steam and ash affecting more than 12,000 families in Batangas and Cavite as recorded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). The restive volcano remains at Alert Level 4, according the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). ###
