Ten groups composed of 4th year students from the College of Science, Engineering, and Computer and Information Sciences competed for the 2017 Undergraduate Research Competition in Science and Technology held at the Claro M. Recto Hall, PUP Main Campus on April 4, 2017.
The event which was organized by the Institute for Science and Technology Research under the Office of the Vice President for Research Extension, Planning and Development aimed to promote the science , engineering, mathematical and technological advances in coming up with globally competitive innovations.
Mikee M. Salcedo, Charmaine Tose C. Atigo, Jaimey Kathryne C. David, Paolo Angelo M. Gaton and Jennylen S. Geronimo’s research “CELHAR- Optimizing the Use of Lahar as a Stimulating Agent in Electricity Generation” claimed the top spot; Second place was the research conducted by Jerome Joel P. Mallari and John Jayson a. Lopez titled “Securing Data File through audio Steganography using Phase Coding”; While the third place was John Dominique Pedroso and Darlene Rosebelle Diamadia's research titled “Ripening Delay of Starch-Based Edible Coating in Mangiferiaindica L. (mango) and Musa sapientum L. (latundan banana).”
Among the panel of judges were Dr. Axel H. Arriola from the University of the East, Dr. Melito A. Bacay from Technological University of the Philippines, Dr. Marrick Neri from University of the Philippines- Diliman, Dr. Teresita R. Perez from Ateneo de Manila University and Dr. Argel P. Bandala from De La Salle University.
