Intent on enriching the art of heritage conservation, Escuela Taller de Filipinas Foundation, Inc. relaunched Salin 2020: Lecture Tour on Heritage Conservation at the PUP Theatre, College of Communication (COC), Thursday, February 27.
"Cultural property is a symbol of heritage. It has continuity, dapat ay hindi ma-interrupt kasi ang pamana ay ipinapasa,” Architect Jeffrey Cobilla, head of the Technical Team, said in his talk as he discussed the Conservation Management Plan (CMP) or the process of preservation being done by Escuela Taller.
He was joined by Ar. Sarah Jane Pahimnayan and Ar. Michael Querido, the architects from Escuela Taller who were both alumni of the PUP College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA).
“Built-heritage conservation gives a sense of identity and continuity,” Pahimnayan said as she presented the documentation of the restoration of cultural heritage sites such as San Pablo Church in Laguna, Apalit Church and Minalin Church in Pampanga, and many more.?
“Ang community, higit kaninuman, ang may mahalagang gampanin sa paggawa ng proyektong ito,” Querido, on the other hand, stated as he discussed the preventive conservation demonstration of the projects being conducted.
The speakers also talked about the various topics in relation to the programs and activities undertaken by Escuela Taller such as different restoration methods, “learning-by-doing” projects, and others.
Escuela Taller is a training center formed by a group of architects, historians, teachers, administrators, officers, technicians, and collaborators whose main objective is to equip out-of-school youth with essential skills and knowledge while focusing on the preservation of cultural heritage. Their office is in Intramuros, Manila.
This event is the second leg of this year’s lecture series organized by Rose Roque, the newly appointed chief of the Center for Labor and Industrial Relations (CLRI) under the Institute of Human and Social Development (IHSD). It was held in partnership with PUP CLRI, CAFA, University Center for Culture and the Arts (UCCA), College of Arts and Letters (CAL) Department of Filipinology, and Senior High School Arts and Design Track. ###
