Senior High School student Mr. Rainiel Albert M. de Leon won Bronze in the 2020 International Math Open for Young Achievers (IMOYA) held in Bangkok, Thailand last December 1 and 2.
Mr. de Leon, Grade 12 STEM student, is among the Filipino math wizards who competed in the event participated by 11 nations. With his exemplary performance, Mr. de Leon has been qualified to compete for a higher level in the 2021 IMOYA.
With a total of 461 awards including 29 gold, 103 silver, 238 bronze, and 90 merit awards, the Philippines outdid other Southeast Asian countries and placed second in the overall tally.
The International Mathematics Open for Young Achievers (IMOYA), hosted by the Skillshare based in Singapore, is a contest that engages students in a math exploratory activity that centers on relating math to the real world, making students active learners and giving them a sense of achievement.
