PUP LHS students showcased their skills and talents in different competitions in the event conducted by the University of the Philippines Political Society called PED XING XII: Politics Camp, a conference that intends to strengthen youth political participation in the Philippines, June 8.
Nine PUP Laboratory High School students competed in four various categories.
Ms. Rhomilynn Alejo participated in the English category of essay writing, and Ms. Nicole Carino in the Filipino category.
“Habang tumatagal, lumalawak, lumalaki, at lumalalim na ang mga opinyong naipapahayag sa “social media” na maging ang isang payak na mambabasa ay mahihirapang unawain ang mga impormasyong iyon. Kahit ganoon, lagi kong ipinapaalala sa aking sarili na panindigan ang sarili kong paniniwala,” an excerpt from Ms. Carino’s essay titled “Subok”.
In her essay titled “Education is the torch in the cave of ignorance,” Ms. Alejo wrote, “We all share the same history. We all share the same stories on how we achieved freedom. And so, we should also have the same purpose in preserving it. Rather than discouraging and crucifying those who are selfless enough to turn their beliefs into actions, we should keep in mind that what makes a person a hero is not what he has done for himself but for what he has done for others.”
Five of the delegates, Mr. Angelito Tungol, Ms. Carmilalyn Calagui, Ms. Crystal Layola, Ms. Cassandra Umania, and Mr. Roman Lopez, showcased their skills through the project proposal writing category, while Ms. Naomi Amala excelled in digital poster making.
More so, Mr. Prince Joey B. Arano of 10-Bookkeeping, with his entry titled “Estangkado: Walang Pag-usad,” ended as one of the finalists of the photo essay writing competition.
The PED XING XII: Politics Camp aims to empower the youth and enable them to be aware of the Philippines’ striking issues through Political Science education.
