The Polytechnic University of the Philippines welcomed Dr. Jennifer Luangsa-ard, a Filipina awardee of the Balik Scientist Program (BSP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Dr. Luangsa-ard obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from West Visayas State University Philippines and acquired her Vordiplom & Diplom in Biotechnology from the Technical University of Braunschweig in Germany. She furthered her study and completed her Ph.D. in Tropical Agriculture at Kasetsart University in Thailand.
Currently, she is the team leader of the Plant Microbe-Interaction Laboratory at the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), Thailand. Her research interest includes phylogenetics and ecology of invertebrate-pathogenic fungi.
While in the Philippines, Dr. Luangsa-ard will conduct short studies on the Philippine invertebrate pathogenic fungi and mentor undergraduate students on biocontrol-related researches. Moreover, she will be sharing her knowledge and expertise in a webinar series with the theme "Exploring invertebrate pathogenic fungi, a leap towards new breakthroughs in agricultural research" on October 8, 15, 22, and 29, 2021.
