PUP, despite all the hurdles and obstacles everyone has experienced this year, still managed to conduct a Year-End Online Christmas Celebration with the theme “Pasko sa PUP: Pagsasamahang Pinapanday ng Pagkakaisa, Pagbibigayan at Pagkalinga” broadcasted live on December 18 via Facebook Live at 10:00 AM.
The online event was hosted by Ms. Glenda Salorsano from the Inspection Management Office under the Office of the Executive Vice President, who is also a faculty member of the Kagawaran ng Filipinolohiya - College of Arts and Letters.
“Ngayong taon, tunay na humarap tayo sa iba’t-ibang pagsubok, subalit hindi ito naging hadlang para tayo ay magbuklod at magsama-sama sa kabila ng paalala na magkaroon ng social distancing at tanggapin ang hamon ng virtual mode,” she said.
The first part of the program showed several executive officials of the PUP community that were present as they shared their messages to show unity and support to the community in this time of pandemic and disasters.
“Ang mensahe ng kapaskuhan sa bawat PUPian ay malinaw at hindi nagbabago, na kahit ang buong taon ng 2020 ay humarap tayo sa iba’t ibang pagsubok at dagok ng buhay, patuloy na maningning at tanglaw kaya’t palaging may dahilan para magpatuloy sa buhay at magalak,” University President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi stated.
The event was followed by the Convocation, which was led by Vice President for Branches and Satellite Campuses Prof. Pascualito B. Gatan.
Prof. Gatan started his speech about the birth of the savior Jesus Christ and how it made Christmas the most wonderful season of joy, hope and thanksgiving.
“If you want to be happy for a lifetime, put your faith in Jesus Christ," he said as he shared his experiences.
Gift Giving project
Later in the online celebration, the PUP Extension Management Office – Community Relations and Outreach Services, together with the help of the General Services Office shared, through a video presentation, their Gift Giving Project to selected PUP employees and Christmas Caravan that benefited a total of 200 kids living in nearby barangays namely Brgy. 591 Zone 58, Brgy 592 Zone 58, Brgy. 628 Zone 63AS, Brgy. 629 Zone 63, and Brgy. 636 Zone 64,last December 8 and 15.
“Ito ay isang pagpapakita ng matibay na samahan at magandang pakikitungo ng PUP sa mga kalapit nitong komunidad. At sa darating na taon, maka aasa po tayo na mas lalo pa nating pag-iigtingin ang taos-pusong pagbibigay serbisyo sa ating komunidad," Salorsano stated.
Education on Wheels
Moreover, PUP shared the launching of a new ‘PUP Education on Wheels: Pamantasang Bayan’ program, led also by the Extension Management Office, that aims to bring higher education closer to underprivileged yet deserving youths in low income rural and urban areas, this also targets other marginalized sectors, such as indigenous people migrant women and persons deprived of liberty.
This program is designed for a mobile classroom setup through a convertible bus to extend PUP’s education services to out-of-school youth in poor areas to ensure that no students will be left behind in these times.
The 2020 Year-End Online Celebration ended with the “Tanglaw ng Pasko” Official Music Video that was composed by student artists from the Creative Media Artists Society (CMAS), University Center for Culture and the Arts (UCCA) and produced by the Communication Management Office, with the help of PUP CreaTV production team and CMAS.
