The Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension Planning and Development (OVPREPD) through its Research Management Office (RMO) held a 2 – day capability building seminar – workshop for the research practitioners of the University on December 12 to 13, 2016. It was attended by more than 150 participants across the PUP System. This seminar – workshop aimed to strengthen the research culture in the University through the increase of research production, presentation and publication.
The speakers present on the first day were Dr. Racidon P. Bernarte (Assistant to the Vice President for REPD), Dr. Angelina E. Borican (Director, PUP Publications Office) and Mr. Ryan Niog (IT Specialist, PUP ICTO). They discussed the University research production, presentation and publication incentives. Furthermore, there was an orientation on the PUP Online Journal System and University’s subscription to Plagscan, an antiplagiarism software.
The featured speakers on the second day were Dr. Matthew A. Eichler (Texas University), Dr. Marie Paz E. Morales (Philippine Normal University), Dr. See Diu Seng (Thomson Reuters Southeast Asia), and Ms. Maggie Lam (Thomson Reuters Southeast Asia). The discussions focused on the current trends and best practices in research presentation, production and publication, and impact factor and citation index of international refereed research journals.
As the seminar-workshop concluded, the OVPREPD anticipates that there will be a higher number of knowledge generation and publication after the forum in the University.
