The country’s first open university marked its 26th founding anniversary with a mammoth gathering that highlighted cooperation among Southeast Asian academic institutions involved in open learning and distance education.
Nearly 1,000 graduate students and course specialists attended the 2016 International Conference on ASEAN Regional Collaborations through Distance Learning, Equivalency and Continuing Professional Development organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Open University System (PUP OUS) last March 13.
Held at Lakeshore Tent in Taguig City, the PUP OUS conference featured Dr. Amelia A. Biglete of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as keynote speaker. It also had Prof. Chutima Sacchanand of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University and Dr. Georgene Ang-Cabacang of Royal Institution, Singapore as lecturers. Ang-Cabacang and Sacchanand discussed opportunities on how their organizations collaborate with the PUP OUS in terms of delivering distance learning, equivalency and continuing professional development.
PUP President Emeritus Dr. Ofelia M. Carague graced the event along with PUP OUS officials Dr. Anna Ruby Gapasin, Dr. Carmencita L. Castolo, Dr. Remedios G. Ado, Dr. Rosalie A. Corpus, Dr. Flordeliza E. Alvendia, Prof. Jerome P. Dumlao, Prof. Benilda Eleanor V. Comendador, Prof. Jonathan U. Florida and Prof. Jessie I. Quirrez.
