In response to its commitment to offer a wide variety of extension programs and psychological services, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), through the Department of Psychology, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) on February 15, 2021, at the CIW Conference Room.
The extension project titled Leading an Empowering Valuable Life: Uplifting and Protecting CIW (LEVEL UP CIW) is part of the Life Skills Program (LSP) of the University that provides psychological services to the vulnerable sectors.
Under the MOU, signed by CIW Corrections Technical Superintendent Virginia S. Mangawit, PUP Psychology Department Chairperson Dr. John Mark S. Distor, and Psychology Department Extension Coordinator Prof. Aimee Rose A. Manda, PUP will assist CIW personnel in dealing with and identifying the psychological and mental needs of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) by providing psychological services such as training and seminars for a much more effective prison management.
The University is expected to conduct services or activities at least twice a month. Among the activities lined up for March 2021 are training about Mental Health in the Workplace and Work Ethics, and the seminar about Gender and Development.
