PUP's Center for Human Rights Studies (CHRS) and the University Center for Culture and the Arts (UCCA) held a set of arts and culture workshops with the theme "Culture as a Human Right" last July 26, 2019 at the Tanghalang PUP. This activity was done in partnership with the Commission on Human Rights and Kontemporaryong Gamelang Pilipino (Kontra-Gapi).
The goal of the workshop was to popularize human rights through arts and culture. Prof. Erwin F. Rafael, executive director of Kontra-Gapi, led a demo performance followed by a short discussion about how cultural performances can be utilized in the promotion of human rights. The participants were then divided into smaller groups for workshop on Philippine dance, mime-acting, and Philippine isntruments. Prof. Edru Abraham, founder of Kontra-Gapi, handled the mime acting workshop. Participants performed a recital right after the workshop.
PUP officials who spearheaded the activity include Paulo Benedicto C. Villar, CHRS Chief, Bely R. Ygot, UCCA Director, and Jalaine Joyce V. Malabanan, Chief of Drama and Dance. ###
