The present Institutional Planning Office (IPO) traces its origin to the Institutional Planning Department which the administration of former PUP President Ofelia M. Carague created in 1999. It is one of the major units under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Development.
IPO's forerunner formulated the University Master Plan for the period 1999-2004. The Plan covered various major components: excellence in instruction; excellence in research, publication, creative and innovative work; excellence in extension services, continuing education; enhancing faculty, staff and student development and welfare; information technology and communication network-tools toward excellence; and University empowerment through excellence in governance.
In addition, the office was tasked to prepare the Agency Performance Measures, Accomplishments and Targets required by Congress, Senate, Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Budget and Management for the University budget hearing and for the release of cash allocation.
With the assumption to office of Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman as University President in 2012, a new University structure was adopted and the present Institutional Planning Office under the Office of the Vice-President for Research, Extension, and Development(OVPRED) was reorganized. IPO is now comprised of a Planning section and a Monitoring and Evaluation section.
Under the new set up, the IPO formulates and regularly updates the University's long-range plans and projects, monitors their implementation and submits institutional policy recommendations and periodic reports to the President through the Vice President for Research, Extension, Planning and Development and maintains institutional databases.
