The Polytechnic University of the Philippines Mighty Maroons once again invades the 25th SCUAA-NCR Games.
Eventhough PUP failed to recapture the overall championship from Rizal Technological University (RTU) Blue Thunders who collected a total of 171 gold medals, 80 silvers, and 33 bronzes, the PUP contingent still emerged winners as first runner up hauling 58 gold medals, 123 silvers, and 53 bronzes. The Mighty Maroons dominated the team sports competition, most especially in the much awaited men’s basketball games, women’s volleyball and lawn tennis in the week-long competitions held on January 14 to 18, 2013.
The men’s basketball swept all their matches against the Philippine State College of Aeronotics (PHILSCA), Technological University of the Philippines (TUP), a close decision to Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Technology (EARIST), Rizal Technological University (RTU), Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC), and Philippine Normal University (PNU).
Meanwhile, PUP Sports Director Prof. Reynato G. Unso boldly declared that PUP can no longer afford to give the RTU its 10 overall championship next season.
“Nine is too much, No more ten winning streak or else, our own winning record in SCUAA will be threatened by RTU,” Director Unso bravely said.
The host, PNU finished 2nd Runner-up with 11 gold medals, 7 silvers, and 83 bronzes; next season host PHILSCA surprisingly bested other universities with 6 gold medals, 13 silvers, and 36 bronzes to bring home the 3rd runner-up trophy to their campus in Pasay City; last year’s 2nd Runner-up EARIST got the 4th Runner-up trophy with 9 gold medals, 19 silvers, and 18 bronzes this year; TUP placed 5th with 4 gold medals, 18 silvers, and 45 bronzes; and, MPC got only 3 bronze medals for the 5th Runner-up finish.
