Description: A Building Engineer is involved in planning, designing, constructing, operating, maintaining,supervising and renovating building structures.Building engineers provide maintenance, distribution of electricity, water supply and lighting forresidential and commercial buildings. He / She is also involved in other construction initiatives andare responsible for providing advice on the installation and maintenance of air conditioning, lighting,telecoms and water systems for all building services.

Duties and Responsibilities: Inspect project sites to monitor the progress of construction projects and ensure that the structures being built conform to design specifications, safety and sanitation standards. He / She also direct or participate in surveying the layout to establish reference points, grades or elevations to guide construction. He / She regularly inspect equipment such as elevators, fire extinguishers and smoke detectors and ensure that they comply with local fire and building codes. They also ensure that the building has the requisite number of ramps for wheelchair users. He / She must determine if a construction project is feasible by estimating the quantities of materials, equipment and labor that will be needed and the associated expenses. He / She must identify environmental risks and develop risk management strategies for construction projects.
