PUP partners with Penang Institute in TechCamp Malaysia-Philippines 2021

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), through the College of Communication (COC) Department of Communication Research (DCR), partners with Penang Institute, Malaysia for the TechCamp Malaysia-Philippines 2021 with the theme “Teaching Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Skills in Everyday Life” on March 29 to 31, 2021.

TechCamp Malaysia-Philippines 2021 is part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the PUP and the Penang Institute.

The project aims to train and deepen the understanding of an individual on the importance of MIL in a fast-moving, digital media landscape among teachers and teacher educators who are passionate about building a well-informed society, beginning with young children.

Top caliber academicians and experts from the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Netherland, Barcelona, and the United States of America served as speakers. Among the speakers was PUP Open University System course specialist Prof. Ricky Rosales. Prof. Rosales discussed the overview of the Philippines’ Media Landscape.

Meanwhile, DCR Chair and OUS Broadcasting Program Chair Dr. Rudolf Anthony A. Lacerna, and faculty-course specialist Prof. Marynelle L. Rosales served as moderators in the breakout sessions about the development and integration of MIL in lesson plans.

PUP President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi, Office of the International Affairs Director Prof. Jonna Karla C. Bien, COC Dean Dr. Hemmady S. Mora, Department of Broadcasting Chair Dr. Maria Lourdes DP. Garcia and Department of Advertising and Public Relations Chair Dr. Jerielyn V. Reyes were also present at the event.

Under the collaboration, PUP-DCR will conduct MIL researches. The three-day event is supported by the United States (US) Department of State, the US Embassy Kuala Lumpur, and Penang Institute, in partnership with the Centro Escolar University and SEAMEO Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO RECSAM).
