CID conducts 1st Webinar on Mental Health Issues and VAWC

The Center for Inclusivity and Diversity (CID)- the newest advocacy unit of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) under the Extension Management Office (EMO), in cooperation with Research Institute and Gender Development, conducted its a webinar on Mental Health Issues and Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) as part of Inclusivity and Diversity Lecture Series entitled "Love in the Time of COVID: How to Overcome Relationship Challenges during the Pandemic" with Dr. Liecel Trinidad- Fulgencio and Atty. Melamarisa Mauricio Panotes as resource speakers on April 24, 2021, via Zoom and FB Live.

The program started with welcoming remarks from CID Chief Louie Montemar where he shared the objectives of the center such as providing programs that would enhance the capability of marginalized and vulnerable individuals. According to Chief Montemar, the most vulnerable people in society including women and children must be protected and be empowered so that discrimination and abuse will not prosper.

The first lecture showcased Dr. Liecel Trinidad Fulgencio, a Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the UP-Philippine General Hospital. In his lecture, Dr. Fulgencio shared about the psychological consequences and relational effects of the pandemic. She also shared some coping suggestions for couples and families. 

Meanwhile, second lecturer Atty. Melamarisa Mauricio-Panotes, a Supervising Lawyer at UP College of Law- Office of Legal Aid and an Executive Assistant at the office of the Vice Governor of Camarines Norte, discussed Republic Act 9262 also known as Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.

The successful event was spearheaded by Prof. Montemar with the help of his coordinators: Prof. Patricia Camille Villa and  Prof. Christo Rey Albason and support from the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Development, Extension Management Office, and all faculty extensionist from different branches and campuses of PUP.
