Roman Dannug Appointed NAPC Deputy Director-General Shantel R. Ognit, Communication Management Office Dr. Roman Ramiscal Dannug, a former dean of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP)’s College of Political Science and Public Administration (CPSPA)—historically and alternatively referred to as the College of Economics, Finance, Politics, and Public Administration (CEFP)—has been appointed Deputy Director-General of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC). On August 11, 2026, Dannug took his oath of office before Executive Secretary Ralph Recto.
Before joining the NAPC, Dannug made significant contributions to PUP through his academic and leadership roles. From 1995 to 1997, he worked as assistant director of PUP's Center for International Relations before becoming campus branch director of PUP Maragondon in Cavite from 1997 to 1998. He then became the director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Development from 1998 to 2000. From 2001 to 2006, Dannug served as dean of the College of Economics, Finance, Politics and Public Administration. During the same period, he was also the faculty and program chair of the Master in Public Administration and Governance program at the PUP University Graduate School.
Through these positions, Dannug contributed to PUP’s work in public administration education, entrepreneurship, international relations, and academic leadership. His leadership extended beyond the university when he served as president of the Association of Schools of Public Administration in the Philippines from 2002 to 2006. Dannug's contributions to PUP were acknowledged in the 2006 Most Outstanding Academic Leadership Award. His academic work also included publications on politics, governance, political campaigns, political psychology, Philippine democracy, and public administration.
With his years of service and leadership at PUP, Dannug brings extensive experience in education and governance to his new role. As a new NAPC Deputy Director-General, he is expected to help coordinate programs that address poverty and the needs of marginalized communities.
