The University sought the support of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in expanding collaborative work with government media stations and government information organizations through a partnership agreement. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two agencies was signed on May 17.
PUP President Manuel Muhi hopes that through this agreement, the PUP Community benefits tremendously from PIA’s goal of disseminating information about government programs, projects, and services to the Filipino public as the country’s chief information arm.
“We have been friends with PIA for long and so we are always looking forward to institutionalizing our collaborative work with them. We hope to mutually benefit from this engagement, and we are also keen in working with other government agencies. As the country’s polytechnic university, we intend to bring impactful programs to our stakeholders through these mutual agreements,” Dr. Muhi shared in an email interview.
PIA Director-General Jose Torres, Jr. expressed his pleasure for the partnership and its development-centric provisions, stating “tuwang-tuwa po ako na inimbitahan at inanyayahan ang PIA na maging katuwang ng PUP sa pagsulong po ng edukasyon.” (I’m very happy to be invited and for PIA to be invited, as well, to partner with PUP in advancing education here in our country)
In the MOU signing ceremony, PIA has pledged to become the University’s partner in formulating instructional and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, help in forging new associations with government TV and Radio stations, and assist in PUP’s extension programs. PIA also committed to link PUP resources via its website and become partners in combatting misinformation and disinformation. A renewed internship agreement for incoming junior and senior college students from various fields has also been forged, while PIA also agreed to promote the activities for the University’s 120th Founding Anniversary this year as well as its other notable endeavors, across all its platforms.
On the other hand, Sintang Paaralan will assist PIA in providing for education and career development for its employees through the Open University System (OUS). PUP will also assist and provide resource persons and subject-matter experts (SMEs) to various PIA-led advocacy campaigns, press conferences, and capacity-building activities.
