MANILA –The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH), inoculated employees, faculty members, and students of Sintang Paaralan last July 23. This is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of the PUP community and in support of the national government’s push to ramp up COVID-19 vaccination through the ‘PinasLakas’ Campaign.
Experts from the Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD), Manila Health Department (MHD), and DOH, together with some officials from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) graced the community vaccination program at the PUP Gymnasium where nearly 600 people were inoculated.
MMCHD Assistant Regional Director Alelie Grace Sudiacal said that the government is now more than ready to combat the pandemic with a multi-sectoral approach. Meanwhile, PUP President Manuel Muhi encouraged students and employees to get their booster shots as the community prepares for the Ligtas Balik Iskuwela in October. “Magpabakuna para ma-secure natin ang mga kasama natin. Alam naman antin na tumataas pa rin ang percentage ng tinatamaan ng COVID kaya kailangan talagang suportahan ang programa ng gobyerno na PinasLakas (Get vaccinated to secure our colleagues and students. Many people are getting infected by COVID-19, which is why we support this government initiative, PinasLakas),” he shared.
PUP started its community vaccination initiatives in 2021 in collaboration with the local government of Manila. Booster jabs will help prevent the vulnerable population from getting severe diseases aggravated by COVID-19. However, DOH reiterates that stern compliance with the minimum health standards is the best way to avoid the spread of the virus and keep hospitalization rates low across the country. PinasLakas will continue to work with different stakeholders in bringing vaccination efforts in schools, plazas, markets, malls, places of worship, and workplaces.
