In celebration of the World No-Tobacco Day, the PUP Department of Advertising and Public Relations through Advertising and Public Relations Organization of Students (ADPROS) partnered with the Department of Health through the Bureau of Health Promotions for the webinar titled Youth Talks: Impacts of Tobacco and Vape, which was broadcasted on the organization's Facebook page and was cross-posted at Healthy Pilipinas and Department of Education FB pages on May 28, 2021.
The webinar started with an opening statement from Health Secretary Francisco Duque III explaining the different activities conducted by the DOH in the fight against tobacco consumption. Secretary Duque also stressed the importance of helping each other as a community in successfully quitting smoking. Afterward, the Department of Education Chief of School Health Division Dr. Maria Corazon Dumlao delivered a message of support lauding the initiative.
The main program began with a talk from Dr. Shiela Marie G. Hocson, the Guidance Counsellor Director of Far Eastern University Manila and Makati branches. Dr. Hocson explained that quitting smoking enhances both the physical and mental health of the smoker. It was followed by Mr. Marvin Basa, the founder of Quit Smoking Ph FB Group, talk where he shared his smoking experience to inspire viewers to quit smoking or to avoid starting or trying it.
The last speaker was Dr. Beverly Lorraine C. Ho, the concurrent Director for Health Promotion Bureau and Disease Prevention and Control Bureau of the DOH. Dr. Ho revealed that tobacco causes several ailments that affect various organs of the body due to the presence of several chemicals. In the question-and-answer portion, Dr. Mel Anthony E. Acuavera, the Medical Officer IV at DOH, Health Promotion Bureau also joined the group to give light to the queries of the participants.
The Chairperson of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, Dr. Jerielyn V. Reyes, expressed her gratitude to all the people behind the program as she looked forward to more fruitful collaborations with DOH as the Department of Advertising and Public Relations commits to relevant advocacies.
