The Polytechnic University of the Philippines successfully organized the 2nd Young Communicators’ Congress (YCC II) which was held at the AFP Theater, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on October 19, 2012.
Spearheaded by the PUP College of Communication and endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education, YCC II focused on the theme “Youth in Communication: Advocates of Peace and the Environment for Sustainable Development.”
Around 1,300 communication students from PUP and 12 other colleges and universities attended the event which featured Prof. Bradley C. Freeman of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Singapore as keynote speaker. The students also interacted with Mr. Karlon N. Rama of the Peace and Conflict Journalism Network, Mr. Ted Failon of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, Mr. Nathaniel Cruz and Ms. Kara Patria C. David of GMA 7, Mr. Armando Rojo of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines, Mr. Jose Enrique Africa of IBON Foundation, and Atty. Nepomuceno Malaluan of the Access to Information Network who delivered speeches on media, and the quest for peace and development.
PUP alumni and media practitioners John “Papa Jack” Gemperle (Love Radio), Maricel Halili (TV5), Irene Fernando (Manila Bulletin), Steve Dailisan (GMA 7), Zhander Cayabyab (DZMM), Jayvee Arcena (TV5), Gerard Garcia (TV5), and Angelito Bautista, Jr. (Philippine Information Agency) served as forum moderators.
PUP College of Communication Dean Dr. Edna T. Bernabe, Department of Broadcast Communication Chair Dr. Racidon P. Bernarte, and Department of Journalism Chair Prof. Cherry C. Pebre led the roster of university communication professors who attended YCC II.
The 1st Young Communicators' Congress – a brainchild of Dr. Angelina E. Borican, former PUP College of Communication Dean and current Publications Office Director, and Dr. Anna Ruby P. Gapasin, former PUP Broadcast Communication Chairperson and current Director of the Communication Management Office – was held in September 2011. A total of 1,500 participants attended the event. This year’s Congress was chaired by Dr. Bernarte.
Prof. Kriztine R. Viray directed the program.
