Sintang Paaralan, under the PATHWAYS Project, organized the PUP Entrepreneurial Services and Support Orientation (PESSO) at Bulwagang Bonifacio on March 26. All students from BS Food Technology, BS Nutrition and Dietetics and BS Entrepreneurship attended the program with the theme “Pathways to Success: Empowering People through Impactful Entrepreneurial Services and Support.”
“This particular activity is a University effort on how to develop the skills of our students, that aside from being a professional in the near future, ay maging entrepreneurs kayo. Hindi naman nakukuha natin sa loob ng isang semestre yung pagiging isang entrepreneur. Ang kailangan talaga natin diyan is yung readiness ninyo,” University President, Dr. Manuel Muhi shared in his inspirational message.
(“This particular activity is a University effort on how to develop the skills of our students, that aside from being a professional in the near future, you also become entrepreneurs. We won’t be able to learn everything about being an entrepreneur in one semester. What we need to work on is your readiness.”)
University-supported entrepreneurial services Head Executive Assistant to the Office of the President, Ann Clarisse M. de Leon introduced PUP Seeds of Innovation for Business Opportunities and Leadership Development (SIBOL). She shared that it is a culmination of all the activities and opportunities created in the University as part of the PATHWAYS project. It focuses on employment and entrepreneurship for the students and a mini PATHWAY activity inside the University. This initiative gives a door for the students to pursue entrepreneurship for their future.
Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services (AVPSAS) and Alumni Relations and Career Development Office (ARCDO) Director Engr. Florinda H. Oquindo discussed the Launch of the University’s New Entrepreneurship Service.
“Our aim here is to help our students determine their career goals, enhance their skills, and contribute to company success,” Dir. Oquindo said. She added that the University will help the students in the beginning up to the end, until they graduate, through their career assessment, career planning, and initiative.
The next speaker is the Director of Intellectual Property Management Office, Dir. Ginno L. Andres, and his topic revolves around IPMO Best Practices and the importance of protection of the ideas and research for the future entrepreneurs.
According to Dir. Andres, IPMO assures the student that they will secure and protect the ideas, topics, and research from the thesis, product proposal, and other academic output that students create inside the university. Students need to know how to protect and secure their academic property as this ensures uniqueness, which is commonly understood as “copyright.”
A lively and meaningful interaction with the students and the speakers ensued after the morning session.
Encouraging dreams and innovation During the afternoon session, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) National Capital Region (NCR) Division Chief Ms. Corona Olivia O. Rivera talked about “How to Start a Business and Orientation on the DTI Programs and Services”.
“Always start with a Vision, kase kung wala tayong (vision) walang action na gagawin... If we have a dream or a vision, alam natin ang action natin ngayon that will lead us to our dream,” she shared.
(“Always start with a Vision, because if we don’t have one, we won’t have any action to work on. If we have a dream or a vision, we know what actions or steps to take that will lead us to our dream.”)
The last speaker for the event is the Executive Director of Animolabs DLSU Manila, Prof. Federico C. Gonzales. He discussed Project Incubation and how it can help the students who want to be entrepreneurs. Prof Gonzales focused on the early stage of entrepreneurship, through ideas, vision, and goals.
He said that “Everything starts with a Dream.” He added that “not all inventions are innovation, and not inventions are useful” students need to see what people need and what the product or services can provide.
Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Edelyn Mariano-Guillo closed the program with her concluding remarks. She thanked all partners and students for making the activity a success.
