The University’s resident choral group, Bagong Himig Serenata (BHS) is the Grand Prix Overall 2nd Place in the recently concluded Gerard Dela Pena Choral Festival and Competition. PUP BHS also brought home the Gold Diploma – Musica Sacra Category and People’s Choice Award.
Emerging composer and choir conductor, Gerard Dela Pena sponsored and organized the inaugural competition. His choral arrangements were sung in the competition under three (3) categories: Musica Sacra or Sacred Music, Folklore, and Open Category. The competition was hosted at the Teatro Marikina on December 15.
11 choirs joined the choral fest: Urdaneta City University – Orata Chamber Singers, Pangasinan State University Himig Ensemble, ELYU Chamber Singers, Himig Pag-ibig Choir, Emilio Aguinaldo College Chorale, Corazon De Jesus Choir, Angelico Voce Chorale, Mapua Cardinal Singers, San Jose Partido Serenata, and Marikina Polytechnic College Chorale.
A week earlier, BHS also staged their annual concert at the Tanghalang PUP, COC Compound, Sta. Mesa, Manila. Titled “KALye USAp: Duyog sa Pagkakaisa,” the recital featured bodabil and shed light on topics central to the PUP experience such as jeepney phaseout, gender equality, and territorial sovereignty.
