The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and the Department of Trade and Industry-National Capital Regional Office (DTI-NCRO) renewed their commitment to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the food sector on February 6. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony was held at the Silid Lakan-Dayang / Pulungan Hall, attended by key representatives from both institutions, headed by PUP President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi and DTI-NCRO Regional Director Winston T. Singun.
“This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to equipping our students with industry-relevant knowledge and giving MSMEs the tools they need to succeed. PUP’s strong reputation in research, extension, and outreach services makes us the ideal partner for DTI-NCRO’s vision of economic empowerment through education,” President Muhi said.
DTI-NCRO Regional Director Winston T. Singun highlighted PUP’s unique strengths, including its diverse academic programs, dedicated administration, and pivotal role in fostering economic development. To further support students, the partnership aims to subsidize facility usage, removing financial barriers to access.
“We encourage PUP students to maximize these facilities for their entrepreneurial ventures, food processing initiatives, and laboratory training, which will also benefit small and medium enterprises,” said Dir. Singun.
Through the integration of PUP’s research, outreach, and extension services, this partnership aims to enhance DTI-NCRO’s Shared Service Facility (SSF) program. The SSF provides state-of-the-art food processing equipment, enabling food processors to access advanced technologies that enhance business operations. Additionally, the facility will serve as a training ground and laboratory for students, equipping them with hands-on experience and industry-relevant skills.
The Special Programs and Projects Office, under the leadership of Dir. Maria Luisa Oliveros, highlighted the importance of this milestone, emphasizing its potential to create opportunities for both students and food MSMEs, ultimately promoting growth and innovation within the industry.
Oliveros expressed her vision for the partnership, stating, “Through PUP, we can provide seamless training, ensuring that students and MSMEs are equipped with the best knowledge, skills, and industry connections.”
To further enhance collaboration, DTI-NCRO is planning initiatives such as TV programs, seminars, and workshops, all following a roadmap-style approach for continuous engagement.
This partnership between PUP and DTI-NCRO offers a promising future, blending academic expertise with industry support to cultivate innovation and growth within Metro Manila’s food sector. The collaboration is set to empower both students and MSMEs, providing them with the means to thrive in a competitive market and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
