PUP, as part of its 120 years celebration of tireless public service and to commemorate the accomplishments gained during the year 2024, held the annual convocation and fellowship at the gymnasium on December 18.
University President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi thanked the entire PUP community, both past and present in his opening remarks. He expressed his gratitude for the current administrative staff, faculty, and students for being a constant presence as the University navigated the year.
“This year we have outperformed ourselves and achieved milestones upon milestones paving the way to what we term as makatao at makabayang edukasyon sa PUP. Tatak PUPian ang edukasyong makatao sapagkat sa PUP lahat tinatanggap. Laging tinatatak ang edukasyong inclusive,” he said.
(This year, we have outperformed ourselves and achieved milestones after milestone, paving the way for what we call ‘makatao at makabayang edukasyon’ (humane and patriotic education) at PUP. PUPian education is truly ‘makatao’ (humane) because here, everyone is welcome. Inclusive education is always at the core.)
Muhi highlighted the various University accomplishments that occurred this year, such as the expansion of the Education on Wheels (EOW) program, high rankings in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Times Higher Education (THE), and World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), winning the grand prize as the White & Case Government Organization of the Year during the 15th Asia CEO Awards, the consistently high performance in licensure examinations, Lingap Komunidad and other extension activities.
He added that every achievement will not be possible without the collaborative efforts of everyone, saying “Hindi natin na maikakaila na maraming mga nakamit ng PUP, akademik man at non-akademik. Hindi iyon mangyayari kung wala ang isang pinagsamang lakas, sipag, at dedikasyon ng bawat isa. Because of your talents, we have overcome the challenges brought about by national and international rankings and evaluations.”
(PUP has achieved numerous accomplishments this year, both academic and non-academic. These achievements would not have been possible without the combined strength, hard work, and dedication of everyone. Because of your talents, we have successfully overcome the challenges posed by national and international rankings and evaluations.)
As the year closes, the President expects a difficult and challenging 2025 but knows that when the entire PUP community comes together to unite, it can face and conquer every challenge that the new year will throw at the Sintang Paaralan.
Following Muhi, Atty. John C. Titan, General Manager of the Titan International Group, took the stage as the keynote speaker. He credited the University for becoming the breeding ground to the success he attained throughout his long career.
In return, he pledged to give back to the Sintang Paaralan that he called home by ensuring that his Titan Review center is forever free to all PUP graduates and students that want to study for their respective licensure examinations and promised that he will take an active role in further developing graduate courses for business in PUP.
Following the convocation, the fellowship program took center stage where games such as ADFA Idol and Dance Contest, Best Holiday Headdress, and Gift-giving took place where joy, camaraderie, peace, friendship, and generosity was in the air—the values of Christmas. The annual PUP Christmas ID featuring members of the community was also showcased towards the end of the convocation. You may view it here.
