The Commission on Elections for the 23rd Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Konseho (ANAK-PUP) Student Council Federation recently named its newly elected executive committee following the Miting De Avance and Elections held last November 26, 2022.
Incumbent College of Computer and Information Services (CCIS) Student Council President Wilhelm Provido Jr. became the head of the federation and the 23rd Student Regent of the PUP System. He will represent the student body of the PUP system in the PUP Board of Regents (BOR), the highest policy-making body in the university system.
Fulfilling his campaign promises During his campaign in the meeting, he mentioned that his plan of action as the student regent will include establishing a student committee for physical classes, a student Kalinga program, pro-student revision of the handbook, academic competency, school publications, and accessible financial assistance for students.
With his succession of the office, Provido is expected to join the fight of PUPians in inhibiting budget cuts in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and the implementation of mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), among many students’ concerns surrounding the university.
Provido won with 20 votes against College of Political Science and Public Administration (CPSPA) Student Council President Joshua Aquiler who only got 16.
The majority of votes that he garnered came from the university’s branches and campuses, namely, Unisan, Sablayan, Quezon City, General Luna, Lopez, Alfonso, Malanay, Cabiao, Taguig, Bataan, Calauan, Pulilan, Binan, Bansud, San Pedro, and San Juan. Provido also got the votes of the College of Business and Accountancy, College of Human Kinetics, and College of Law.
Some election woes Meanwhile, students from the main campus, including Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral (SKM) President Kirchhoff Angala, showed their dismay over the result. They questioned Provido’s merit for the position in line with his failure to address the student’s concerns in his college and non-attendance to the first Student Council Assembly (SCA), where preparations for the student handbook revisions and budget cut censure were discussed.
Student leaders also criticized the voting process due to the unmoderated irregularities of the caucus, citing the lack of representation of PUP Pulilan and the unacknowledged motions of concern that were being raised.
New student leaders Aside from Provido, the 23rd ANAK PUP Federation Commission on Elections, officially declared the following newly elected members of the Executive Committee:
ANAK-PUP is a unifying federation for all the student councils and leaders across PUP system which goal is to fully campaign for the rights and welfare of the studentry.
