Officials from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and student beneficiaries from the Education on Wheels (EOW) witnessed the official turnover of school supplies comprised of 400 ballpens, 280 notebooks, and 140 tote bags that will used for the said program donated by the online job portal company Jobstreet Philippines. The ceremonial event was held on January 14 at the Silid Lakan Dayang/Pulungan at the University Library.
University President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi expressed his gratitude to JobStreet for their generous contribution and sincere commitment in helping the program and its students. He then reiterated the commitment of the University towards this partnership.
(You can count on the Sintang Paaralan to stand with you in nurturing this partnership because it is vital to its success. Our dedication to this initiative is unwavering because we believe that collaborations like this are the key to reaching and helping more communities.)
Head of Marketing Joey Yusingco discussed in his message Jobstreet’s motivation behind partnering with the University for the EOW, highlighting its intentions to help the poor finish college.
“This program, the EOW, has proven that a good future is inclusive for all Filipinos. This is what we really saw with the program and that’s why we really wanted to support it. Brighter days ahead of us is not just a dream but a possibility for everyone, even those in the marginalized sector and underprivileged communities.” Yusingco explained
He added “To our dear EOW students here today, nandito kayo ngayon hindi lang (your journey is not just) about earning a degree. It’s about breaking barriers from the prejudices of the community that you were born into but really creating new possibilities. We are here to support you in every step of your career journey, whether you’re exploring career options, seeking internships, we’re your partner for that.”
PUP Open University Executive Director Guillermo O. Bernabe restated the president’s expression of thanks for the donations given and noted the impact of EOW towards changing the lives of its students.
“Nakita namin ang transformation nila from this personality to this personality na ang laki ng kanilang pinagbago. We are happy because PUP has this program. Kapag nakikita po naman a nakakausap sila [mga estudyante], talaga proud po sila na maging estudyante ng PUP kasi wala raw po sa kanilang wildest dreams na magiging part sila ng PUP at ang pinakamaganda roon, ang sabi nila, exceptional ang program.” Bernabe said.
(We’ve witnessed their transformation, from one personality to another, with significant changes in their growth. We are happy because PUP has this program. When we talk to the students, they are truly proud to be part of PUP. They say that never in their wildest dreams did they imagine they would become part of PUP. What’s even more amazing is that they describe the program as exceptional).
Representing the EOW students, John Andrew Dela Cruz appreciated everyone for their unwavering support and dedication to providing them everything for their education.
(EOW has become a beacon of hope for our youth, those who once thought they could never complete their education, those who believed their lives would remain bleak. EOW has truly brought hope to us—the kind that makes you say, ‘Ah! It’s still possible!’. Dreams that were almost derailed by poverty can still be realized)
Key officials from PUP attended the event including Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Tomas O. Testor, and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman. After the ceremonial turnover, attendees toured the EOW mobile classrooms, observing the innovative learning spaces firsthand. This partnership marks another milestone in PUP’s mission to provide inclusive education through the EOW program, ensuring more marginalized “Iskolar ng Bayan” can access opportunities to learn and grow.
