With over a thousand participants nationwide, PUP National Service Training Program, Sandiwa, and College of Education continue to amplify AKSYON KABATAAN with its topic on eco-conservation and eco-tourism on May 30, 2021.
AKSYON KABAATAN’s week 5 themed “DESTINATION 2030: Uniting Eco-Conservation and Sustainable Tourism Amidst this Pandemic” was underpinned by two excellent resource speakers, Environmental Management Specialist of DENR-EMB MIMAROPA Mr. John Junico B. Udal and University of the Philippines-Baguio Department of Biology Faculty Member Mr. Deign Frolley C. Soriano.
Ms. Jermarie E. Atibagos, Managing Directress of World of Outbound Corporation, started the meaningful discussions with her inspirational talk where she encouraged the participants to appreciate tourism, preserve resources. and trips before the pandemic where students enjoyed the beauty of Philippine tourism.
During the discussion proper, Mr. Udal emphasized eight (8) itinerary points in his talk “Recognizing the Significance of Responsible Travels in Conservation of Biodiversity and Ecosystems,” where he discussed the general impacts of tourism industry and activities, greater protection of the ecosystem, and the importance of sustainable and responsible travels.
“We have the right to enjoy but it is the right of the environment too to be taken care of. Protect the environment, protect life. Let us be responsible travelers,” Mr. Udal said as he ended his discussion.
Right after, Mr. Deign Frolley Soriano in his discussion “Wander our Wonders: Protecting our Environment and our Natural Heritage" underscored environmental facts, tourism as an opportunity and a threat, biodiversity and wildlife conservation, and the state of Philippine tourism before and during the CoVid-19 crisis. He also left the encouragement to get inspiration from the most impacted.
"Eco-tourism should be for the people and for the planet, and not just for profit; I know I can't change you overnight, but this is a motivation to change your everyday lifestyle and try to be a better person for the environment around you and for the planet," Mr. Soriano said.
On June 6, the last part of the AKSYON KABATAAN webinar series will cover election education.
