Faculty and staff from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and St. Mary’s University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore possible areas for research and extension. One of the immediate results include a visit to a potential project site, Paracelis town in Mountain Province.
The PUP contingent participated in SMU-led seminar on conducting ethnographic research on “Indigenous Knowledge, Systems, and Practices (IKSP).” They also met with Paracelis Mayor Marcos Ayangwa, participated in a dialogue with Gaddang elders and culture bearers, and visited a Gaddang weaving and crafts shop.
Participants from PUP was headed by Dr. Raul Sebastian of Institute of Human and Social Development (IHSD) and consisted of representatives from the various departments under the College of Social Sciences and Development (CSSD) and the Extension Management Office (EMO). This visit laid the ground work for further research and extension engagements with indigenous peoples (IP) groups, one of the programs under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Development (OVPRED).
