The College of Law welcomes its two hundred twenty-two (222) freshmen in an orientation conducted on June 11, 2016. The orientation focused on how the freshmen will survive law school and pass the bar exams.
Atty. Gemy Lito L. Festin, Dean of the College of Law, opened the activity with his welcome remarks.
Atty. Arnel Mateo presented the highlights of Juris Doctor program while Atty. Fred C. Luzung lectured on what to expect in law school. Prosecutor Maria Gene Sarmiento and Prosecutor Arthur Velasco discussed basic legal research and basic logic, respectively.
Judge Joselito Villarosa imparted practical tips to survive and excel in law school. Atty. Rosalie Dela Cruz-Cada then talked about English proficiency, how to determine issues of a case, recitations and how to prepare for bar exams.
All the lecturers emphasized that the preparation for the bar examinations starts in the first day of school.
President Emanuel C. De Guzman also attended the orientation. In his speech, he said that not all law students will become lawyers. It is challenging to study law and everyone must study hard.
In the afternoon of the same day, Mr. Doyle Abalos discussed the details of the Student Information System (SIS). Miss Nimfa Salandanan, College of Law registrar, also discussed the admission and registration concerns of the students. Ms. Bernice Mangabat, College of Law librarian then presented the rules and regulations of the library. Dean Festin also discussed the policies of the college such as the dress code policy, tardiness, absences and wearing of identification cards.
Academic organizations and the law student council were also given a chance to talk before the freshmen. Mr. Clarence Jasper Valenzuela and Mr. Josemari Iporac (Office of the Legal Aid), Mr. James Gregory Villasis (bar operations Director-General), Miss Joelyn Marie Gamboa (Moot Court Society), Miss Vida Malaya Villarico (College of Law Research Group),Miss Cecille de Villa (Christians on Demand At Law or CODAL) and Miss Ana Patricia Pineda (Law Student Council) shared information about their respective organizations.
