The College of Communication (COC) has forged a partnership with the International Association of Women in Radio & Television (IAWRT) Philippines. The collaboration was formalized through a ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing, commemorating National Women’s Month, held on March 5, 2024, at the Mateo Conference Room.
In the Philippines, the International Association of Women in Radio & Television (IAWRT) is a chapter or branch of the global organization that operates within the country. It shares the same goals and objectives as the international body, working to empower women in the Philippine media industry, promote gender equality, and address issues related to women’s rights in broadcasting and television.
Ms. Lynda Garcia, President of the IAWRT - Philippines Chapter, and Dr. Anna Ruby Gapasin, PUP Vice President for Research, Extension, and Development, jointly expressed their commitment to the partnership. They highlighted its importance in supporting initiatives such as the Butterfly Campaign and Digital Safe House Project, which aim to create a safer and more inclusive media environment for women.
Also in attendance was Gender and Development Office Director Jerome Permejo, who underscored the significance of the partnership in advancing gender equality in media and journalism through his message.
The collaboration is anticipated to have a profound impact on campus journalism and various digital platforms, fostering an environment that encourages women’s participation and empowerment in media.
