The Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Education and Graduate School officials and faculty conducted three-day training for the faculty of Academic International Consortium of Indonesia, and students of Politeknik Piksi Ganesha in Bandung, Indonesia on May 2-4, 2018. The activity is part of the international extension program of the two colleges which was facilitated by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Development, Extension Management Office headed by its director Dr. Silvia C. Ambag. A memorandum of agreement of PUP with Politeknik Piksi Ganesha became the basis for the “Training of Trainers (TOT)” in which officials and faculty of COED and GS acted as the training instructors and facilitators.
The officials and faculty who were invited for the TOT were: Prof. Dr. Ma. Junithesmer D. Rosales, Dean of the Graduate School and College of Education; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dennis O. Dumrique, Associate Dean of the Graduate School and Chairperson of the Department of Business Teacher Education and Post Baccalaureate in Teacher Education, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Silvia C. Ambag, Director of Extension Management Office; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marion. C. Cresencio; and Assoc. Prof. Sherry Ann C. Medrano, faculty assistant to the Office of the Vice President for Branches and Campuses.
Separate trainings were held for faculty and students. The COED and GS trainers who were assigned to train students had the training held at Politeknik Piksi Ganesha. Topics discussed and trainers assigned are the following: “Communication Skills” - Prof. Dr. Rosales (lecturer/trainer); “Listening Skills”- Assoc. Prof. Medrano (lecturer/trainer); “Preparing for an Interview” – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ambag (lecturer/trainer); and Micro Teaching - Prof. Dr. Ma. Junithesmer D. Rosales, Assoc. Prof. Medrano, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ambag.
While for faculty training which was held at IBIS Budget Hotel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dennis O. Dumrique, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marion. C. Cresencio discussed the following topics, “Portfolio Assessment” and “Different Teaching Methods and Communication Technique” respectively. Meanwhile, micro teaching, which was the last activity, was facilitated by all the trainers.
After the training, the PUP representatives had an immersion where they were oriented about the education system of Indonesia and Cambodia (a representative from SEAMEO was also present), the operation of schools, and the importance of collaboration among polytechnics, universities, and ministries in the improvement and development of education in the Southeast Asian region.
