As part of its ongoing extension activity with ICAN Center for Children and in celebration of CSSD’s 11th year anniversary, the College of Social Sciences and Development (CSSD) organized an educational tour for its beneficiaries on historical sites in Quezon City and San Juan City last February 11, 2022.
The tour aims to introduce the partner beneficiaries especially the children to the country’s rich history and culture, as well as instill historical and nationalistic values. This activity benefited twenty-six (26) children, employees, and volunteers from ICAN Center for Children. They were accompanied by sixteen (16) faculty members and employees from CSSD’s various departments, including the Departments of History, Cooperatives and Social Development, Sociology and Anthropology, Economics, and Psychology.
In his message during the opening celebration of CSSD’s founding anniversary, Dean Raul Roland Sebastian emphasized the role of those in the field of social sciences in bringing about societal change, highlighting the PUPian mandate to use all excellence and knowledge in helping alleviate the suffering especially of the marginalized.
“I know all of us are adjusting to the challenges brought by the pandemic, but I would like to reiterate that social sciences play a vital role in addressing societal concerns, thus our theme “Converging Ideas in the Social Sciences: Solidarity in the Better Normal.” This theme reminds us to use our expertise to bring change and alleviate the suffering of our society especially the marginalized. This is in constant connection with the PUP Hymn gagamitin ang karunungan mula sa iyo para sa bayan,” he stated.
Since establishing extension activities with ICAN Center for Children, the College of Social Sciences and Development has held regular consultation meetings to plan and assess the programs and activities that the college could extend to its partner beneficiaries. This activity is just one of the college’s ongoing collaborations and activities with ICAN-Center for Children.
