The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) ranked 8th among state universities and colleges, 16th among all universities in the Philippines in terms of academic web presence, based on the newest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities released in January 2021.

Universities were evaluated according to the comprehensiveness and relevance of academic outputs produced and shared on the Web, taking into account their top-cited papers and researchers.

In their website, the Cybermetrics Lab explained that web presence remains to be the main indicator for their ranking as it is a “trustworthy mirror of the university” and “an important scholarly communication tool for community engagement and t universal showcase for attracting talent.”

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab to provide reliable updates about the performance of all the universities worldwide “especially those related to the processes of generation and scholarly communication of scientific knowledge.”

In the Philippines, only 289 higher education institutions made it to the recent Webometrics world ranking.
