The Polytechnic University of the Philippines Quezon City (PUPQC) Campus celebrated two significant milestones on December 11, 2024, with the turnover of its newly constructed gymnasium and the groundbreaking ceremony for a four-storey multi-purpose building. Both events took place at the campus grounds, highlighting the university’s commitment to infrastructure development and academic excellence.
The ceremony was attended by key figures, including Prof. Pascualito B. Gatan, Vice President for Campuses; Quezon City’s 2nd District Representative Ralph Wendel Tulfo; PUPQC officials led by Campus Director Prof. Jaime P. Gutierrez Jr.; representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH); Barangay Commonwealth local officials; and members of the student body.
Assoc. Prof. Rommel Roxas, the university’s administrative officer, opened the program with a warm welcome. Rep. Tulfo, who spearheaded the projects, delivered an inspiring speech, expressing gratitude to stakeholders for their collective effort in realizing these initiatives.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the gymnasium marked the first highlight of the event. Attendees explored the one-storey, fully air-conditioned facility, which features an expansive space designed to host campus events and enhance the student experience. This improvement is not merely a structural upgrade but a testament to PUPQC’s dedication to fostering a conducive learning environment.
Immediately following the gymnasium turnover, the university held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new four-storey multi-purpose building. The facility is envisioned as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and academic growth.
Rep. Tulfo also took the opportunity to express his support for House Bill 9605, which seeks to establish a College of Medicine at PUPQC. As one of the bill’s principal authors, he reiterated his commitment to ensuring broader academic opportunities for Filipino students.
The PUPQC Student Council celebrated these developments in a Facebook post, describing them as a testament to the university’s dedication to providing world-class facilities for students and faculty alike.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Jaime P. Gutierrez Jr. and Head of Academic Affairs Demelyn Monzon. The stakeholders collectively thanked Rep. Tulfo for his leadership and initiatives, which continue to inspire students to pursue academic excellence. These milestones signify a brighter future for PUPQC, as the campus continues to prioritize infrastructure development and innovation in education.
