The country’s largest state university did it again!
Renan John S. Cañas of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines bested 2,507 new Electronics Engineers produced by the most recent Electronics and Communications Engineering Licensure Examination.

Cañas got a 97.6% rating in the October 2012 Electronics Engineer Board Examination administered by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC). A total of 106 examinees from PUP passed the said examination.
PUP’s excellent performance in the ECE Board Examinations takes part of its winning streak in 2012 together with PUP placers in Certified Public Accountant, Mechanical Engineering, Master Electrician, and Nutritionist-Dietitian Licensure Examinations.
Earlier, Dean D. Gamay landed in 8th place out of the 4,772 who hurdled the October 2012 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination which produced 526 new Certified Public Accountants for PUP. Gamay registered a rating of 92.57 percent.
Hymer Bryan P. Holgado, on the other hand, placed 6th among the 2,026 who passed the September 2012 Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination. Ninety-eight PUPians became Mechanical Engineers with Holgado on top of the list obtaining a rating of 93.15 percent.
Benje A. Capistrano placed 10th in the September 2012 Registered Master Electrician Licensure Examination. He led 26 other PUPians who passed the board examination that coincided with the Electrical Engineer Licensure Examination. One hundred and eight examinees from PUP passed the Electrical Engineering Examination.
PUP remains the country’s third top nutrition and dietetics school after 70 of its 82 examinees passed the Nutritionist-Dietitian Licensure Examination held last July 2012. PUP got a passing average of 85.37 percent in the examination; a rate relatively higher than this year’s national passing average of 67.08 percent.
PUP also managed to post a 66.22% passing percentage as against the national passing percentage of 50.69% in the June 2012 Architecture Licensure Examination by producing 49 new architects out of 74 examinees.
The University also had 11 examinees who passed the September 2012 Chemist Licensure Examination.
PUP, at present, boasts of 70,478 strong student population, 2,059 academic personnel, and 685 administrative staff across 22 branches and campuses in the National Capital Region and ten other provinces as University President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman continuously work to transform the 108-year-old state university into an epistemic community
