The university advances a holistic culture of well-being by promoting accessible health services, preventive care, mental health support, safe campus environments, and community-responsive health initiatives. Through research, partnerships, capacity-building, and inclusive wellness programs, it strives to reduce health risks, strengthen public health resilience, and improve quality of life across all age groups within and beyond the academic community.
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) continues to advance SDG 3 through strong collaborations with local, national, and global health institutions. At the local level, PUP maintains active partnerships with the Esperanza Health Center and the Local Government for expanded medical support and community-based health services. Nationally, the University’s Memorandum of Agreement with the Philippine Red Cross enables extensive volunteer training, emergency response capacity-building, and youth engagement programs, complemented by mass bloodletting activities conducted with the Parole and Probation Administration–NCR, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Medical Center. Globally, PUP’s partnership with Pathways Mental Health Services strengthens its mental health response through training and support programs for students and employees. These collaborations reflect PUP’s commitment to ensuring accessible, responsive, and holistic healthcare services for the entire community.
Sintang Paaralan continues to champion Health and Wellness programs through a series of impactful health outreach programs designed to uplift vulnerable communities. Led by the College of Human Kinetics, the Para Swimming Program 2023 for Visually Impaired Children provided multiple sessions focused on water safety, physical activity, and confidence-building for VI learners, conducted on August 12, 19, and 26, 2023. Beyond sports-based rehabilitation, the National Service Training Program (NSTP) strengthened community engagement through the Kalinga ng Sinta Christmas Outreach for Handicapped Center Lourdes, promoting disability awareness and joy-filled activities for children with special needs. In addition, the Tanglaw at Kalinga Outreach in Barangay 579 supported street children through storytelling, safety education, and values formation in partnership with local barangay officials. Together, these initiatives—highlighted under PUP’s official health outreach portfolio—demonstrate the university’s steadfast commitment to inclusive wellness and community-centered care.
The University strengthens SDG 3 by ensuring its sports venues are widely accessible to schools, community groups, and the general public. Through both charged and free access schemes, PUP provides various facilities—including gymnasiums and covered courts—to support local athletic development and community wellness, as documented in its official facilities list. The University’s free-use initiatives include the PUP Helen Tan Covered Court in Mulanay, utilized for the Mulanay Athletic Meet 2023 in partnership with DepEd Quezon Province and the LGU, as well as training sessions for the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Mulanay. PUP Taguig also opened its sports facilities for community-centered events such as the BFP–Taguig City Women’s Basketball Game, the All for Christ and iRock Campus Basketball League, the PSME Basketball Tournament hosted by the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the United Alumni Alliance Annual Sports League. These partnerships reflect PUP’s commitment to promoting health, teamwork, and community engagement by making its sports facilities safe, inclusive, and available to all.
PUP reinforces comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education by delivering a series of impactful programs focused on students’ sexual and reproductive health. The Medical Services Department led the webinar “Reproductive Health Law ay Alamin”, educating students on adolescent health, family planning, HIV/AIDS, and STI prevention through expert lectures by Jose Lorenzo Robil, RN, MPH. Complementing this, the NSTP Office conducted “This Is Me: Understanding Sexual and HIV Awareness” in partnership with the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP), engaging youth in discussions on puberty, SOGIESC, and responsible decision-making. Further strengthening health advocacy, the Gender and Development Office hosted the Sexual Health Education Seminar with LoveYourself Inc., emphasizing STI/HIV basics and safe practices, and commemorated World AIDS Day through a university-wide webinar with the HIV and AIDS Support House (HASH), alongside a formal MOU for sustained collaboration on HIV prevention and awareness campaigns. Together, these initiatives ensure that PUP students receive inclusive, accurate, and life-saving sexual health education supported by strong institutional partnerships.
The University upholds a comprehensive Smoke-Free Policy, strictly prohibiting smoking and vape use across all university premises as mandated in its 2023 No Smoking Policy Memorandum 2023 No Smoking Policy. This policy aligns with national directives such as Executive Order 26 and is reinforced through health education initiatives, including the Youth Talks–Impacts of Tobacco and Vape Webinar conducted in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH). To ensure regulated compliance, the university designates specific smoking areas outside campus grounds while maintaining all internal spaces as 100% smoke-free to promote a safe and healthy environment for students, employees, and visitors.
Sintang Paaralan also reinforces SDG 3 through comprehensive health and wellness services for its personnel, including a formal Health Card and Accident Insurance Program provided through the Service Agreement between PhilBritish Insurance and UNAKA-PUP. The University ensures continuous assistance for faculty and staff through the Medical Services Department and counseling programs, as highlighted in the official Mental Health Support for Staff initiatives offering free counseling, webinars, and focused group discussions via the Office of Counseling and Psychological Services (OCPS). These programs are further reinforced by PUP’s institution-wide commitment to promote mental well-being through policy-backed services and accessible support channels.
Campus-wide mental health services are led by the Office of Counseling and Psychological Services (OCPS), providing webinars, crisis response training, peer support, and counseling for students, faculty, and staff. Flagship initiatives include Mental Health Week, Lusog Isip Kabataan Education (LIKE), SAFE (Supportive Assistance for Crisis Events)training, and faculty wellness webinars in partnership with PUP Satellite Campuses.
Health studies from faculty and student researchers published in Scopus and Web of Science-indexed journals contribute to mental health awareness, road safety, pediatric diagnostics, environmental health, and workplace wellness. Research outputs are supported through college-based research units and academic collaborations.
The university supports studies and innovations on AI-driven road damage detection, wastewater pollutant management, and traffic safety solutions, helping reduce environmental and community health risks in urban spaces.
Through its Physical Education Teacher Education (BPED) and Exercise and Sports Science (BSESS) programs, the university graduates professionals equipped to promote physical activity, community fitness, and preventive healthcare across schools, sports, and wellness industries.
The PUPWELL (Promoting University-wide Positive Wellbeing through Empowerment and Lifestyle) program mobilizes faculty wellness through sports, recreation, intramurals, and recovery services. In partnership with BSESS students and IMARI Fitness Center, therapeutic interventions include cupping therapy, stretching, myofascial release, muscle blading, and fitness assessments.
The university strengthens student protection and awareness through institutional policies and campaigns such as the Smoke-Free Policy, Anti-Bullying Advocacy, Drug Abuse Prevention Campaigns, and Sexual and Reproductive Health Awareness Programs led by OCPS.
OCPS–led SAFE training equips crisis response teams composed of faculty, admin personnel, and student support groups, ensuring coordinated emergency response, especially in suicide prevention and psychological first aid situations.
