Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE)

Program Description

The Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE) is a four-year baccalaureate degree in the College of Engineering. The 2018 BSECE Curriculum is composed of 157 units for Technical Courses and 50 units for Non-Technical. The Technical courses is broken down into 12 Units Mathematics, 8 Units Natural/Physical Sciences, 9 Units Basic Engineering Sciences, 20 Units Allied Courses, 81 Units Professional Core Courses, 24 Units Elective and 3 Units On-the-Job Training. Non-Technical courses is broken down into 24 Units General Education courses, 12 Units Mandated courses, 8 Units Physical Education and 6 Units National Service Training Program.

The program encourages the complementary pursuits of learning and practice, reflections, and actions along with a sense perspective, adaption and transcendence. The skills that best describes these values incorporate intuition, critical thinking and problem solving as well as abilities with spoken, written, graphic and spatial media.

Program Educational Objective

Three to five years after graduation, the BS Electronics Engineering alumni shall:

PEO 1: Demonstrating Engineering Profession.
Graduates will be involved in continuous training and development in addressing community needs, current trends and advancements in the field of microelectronics, power electronics, telecommunications, information and communication technology and other allied specialized fields.

PEO 2: Social and Ethical Responsibility.
Graduates will be committed members of professional and other allied organizations engaging in community development or nation-building.

PEO 3: Lifelong Learning.
Graduates will be involved in continuous training and development in current trends and advancements in their chosen fields of specialization.

Program Output

It is expected that by the time of graduation, the students of the BSECE program shall have the ability to:

1. apply knowledge of mathematics and science to solve engineering problems
2. design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
3. design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability, in accordance with standards
4. function on multidisciplinary teams
5. identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
6. apply professional and ethical responsibility
7. communicate effectively
8. identify the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
9. recognize the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
10. apply knowledge of contemporary issues
11. use techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
12. apply knowledge of engineering and management principles as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments
13. Understand at least one specialized field of electronics engineering practice.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted in the program, application should comply with the following minimum requirements:

• Minimum PUPCET Rating: 86.00
• High School GWA: 85.00
• Math, Physics, and Science Grades: 86.00
• Pass the Interview and Screening by the ECE Department

Retention Requirements

To be retained in the BSECE program, students must:

1. Pass the ECE Department Qualifying Examination conducted on annual basis.
2. Obtain a General Weighted Average of 2.00 or had passed the College of Engineering Qualifying Exam (CEQE) for incoming Second year.
3. In any other case, students who failed to meet the requirement related to retention guidelines will be disqualified to pursue the program from the department.

Graduation Requirements

The PUP Student Handbook (2013 Revision) stipulates the graduation requirements as follows:

1. A candidate for graduation shall file his/her application for graduation on-line using his/her SIS account within the period indicated in the University calendar.
2. An application for graduation of the student can be processed only if he/she obtained passing grades in all his/her subjects required in the curriculum.
3. A student shall be recommended for graduation when he/she had satisfied all academic and other requirements prescribed by the university.
4. No student shall be allowed to graduate from the University unless he/she has earned therein more than seventy five percent (75%) of the academic units required in his/her curriculum and had been cleared from accountabilities.
5. A candidate for graduation shall have his/her deficiencies made up and his/her records cleared not later than two weeks before the end of his/her last semester.
6. All candidates for graduation are required to attend the graduation or commencement rites as no degree is conferred in absentia.
7. No graduate shall be issued a Diploma and a Transcript of Records unless he/she had been cleared of all accountabilities.
