Bachelor of Arts in Communication Research (ABCR)

The revised Bachelor of Arts in Communication Research is designed to train students to become competent, critical and responsible practitioners with high level of ethical awareness in the area of communication research study and practice.

The program is geared to develop communication research specialists trained in conducting communication research within the context of theories and effects, and by grounding these with practical experience through fieldwork and internships; the program ensures that its graduates are equipped to contribute to the practice of communication research in the academic and business sectors, both public and private.

Objectives of the Program

• Develop greater competence in identifying and applying communication theories, models and research techniques appropriate for a communication context in the international, national and local setting.
  
• Develop greater competence in identifying and formulating the appropriate study framework for a given communication problem.
  
• Gain a deeper understanding of the nature, principles and applications of different research methods, measurement, sampling methods, data analysis, interpretation, writing and publication of research.
  
• Provide training in the conduct and practice of communication research and other social science researches.
  
• Develop greater appreciation of the practical and ethical issues surrounding the conduct and practice of communication research and other social science researches.

Admission Requirements

The applicant must:

• Have passed the PUP College Entrance Test (PUPCET) at least 85%
  
• Have a high school average of at least 85%
  
• Have a Average grade of 85% in English
  
• Have a average grade of 85% in Math
  
• Have passed the interview
  
• Have accomplished and submitted other pertinent department/college/university requirements

Retention Requirements

Aside from the submission of the student to all university policies and guidelines on retention requirements as stipulated in the PUP Student Handbook, he/she must maintain a weighted average (GWA) of 2.5 in all his/her major subjects for every semester.

Graduation Requirements

The candidate/student, after having fulfilled all university requirements for graduation as stipulated in Section 16 of Revised PUP Student Handbook must have completed the academic requirements of the program.

Milestones and Achievements

• 2006 - The program Bachelor in Communication research was offered in the College of Communication
  
• 2008 - The 3rd year BCR students Rose Ann Cruz and Abenezer Bonbon won first place in the student research grand prix of the Asian Communication and Media Congress
  
• 2010 - The BCR program produced top magna cum laude, Rose Ann Cruz, the class in the 2010-2011 commencement graduation
  
• 2011 - The BCR program produced the first Summa Cum Laude, Mr. Angelito Bautista, the first summa cum laude of the College.
  
  Jesus Guinto and Jerome Papa Lucas, BCR senior students represented PUP and the Philippines in the ASEAN Youth Congress in Japan
  
  Archer Urbano, BCR senior student represented the University in the Ayala Young Leadership Congress
  
• 2012 - Jonas Gregory Perez, BCR junior student represented PUP and the Philippines in Japan as Filipino Youth Ambassador
  
  The revised curriculum of BCR was approved by Commission on Higher Education for implementation.
  
  The Bachelor in Communication Research was renamed Bachelor of Arts in Communication Research
