Aiming to educate and enable the Filipino society to reject use of illegal drugs, the PUP National Service Training Program (NSTP), Samahang Nagtataguyod ng Iisang Diwa’t Adhika (Sandiwa) along with the College of Education (CoEd) conducted the fourth leg of the webinar series, “AKSYON KABATAAN: Amplifying Youth’s Civic Role in Nation-Building through Community Education” with a theme, “ISIP SA ULAP, PAA SA HUKAY: Demystifying the Consequences of Drug Abuse in One’s Physique and Psyche” on May 23, 2021.
The webinar, which focused on the impacts of illegal drug addiction entailing the physical and mental aspects has been divided into two parts: “Assessing the Repercussions of Drug Abuse on a Person’s Cognitive Function” facilitated by Ms. Ma. Diana F. San Juan and “Cultivating the Physical Footprints Associated with Illegal Drugs” with Mr. Emmanuel Mirus Ponon as resource speaker.
During her talk, Ms. San Juan discussed the various drug addiction terms and encouraged everyone to seek help whenever they need it. “Seek help. ‘Di kayo nag-iisa. Maaari kayong humingi ng tulong,” she stated.
On the other hand, Mr. Ponon focused her discussion on the physical effects of substance abuse and emphasized that everyone plays an essential role in drug prevention. “We are the youth, and we have the chance, and the option to break the cycle and end the stigma,” he said as he ended his talk.
Ms. Rochelle Anne Tugnao, one of the participants in the webinar, lauded the webinar and said that drug abuse must be given enough attention especially that it became more serious over time. “What we seem pleasurable will only bring destruction to our lives. Drug abuse is a significant problem among youths that must be given adequate attention to save lives and help those in the phase to recover and create a new life that will help them function in our society effectively,” Tugnao said.
The fifth leg of the “AKSYON KABATAAN: Amplifying Youth’s Civic Role in Nation-Building through Community Education” will be held next week which will focus on environmental knowledge with Mr. John Junico Udal and Mr. Deign Frolley Soriano as resource speakers.
