PUP Department of Sociology and PUP Sociology Society and the led the seminar titled “Consumers’ and Voters’ Rights and Welfare Issues in the 2019 Elections: Voters’ Education forum” which was held on January 25, 2019 at the Bulwagang Bonifacio, Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resources.
The forum, in partnership with Bantay Konsyumer, Inc., the Nationalist Economic Protectionism Association (NEPA), and Democracy Watch discussed voters’ rights and election-related concerns.
Engr. Roderick Ilagan, the resident division chief of systems and operations of Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Information and Technology Department discussed different technical terms about the elections. He also reassured that VCMs or voters’ counting machine cannot be manipulated technically.
Formal procedures during the election were discussed by Dr. Arwin Serrano, a trustee of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting. Serrano also emphasized the importance of youth participation and involvement on national affairs such as election.
Senatorial candidates Neri Colmenares, Florin Hilbay and Chel Diokno’s daughter Laya Diokno, were also given a chance on the afternoon to discuss their stances on different national issues.
