Leading professional services firm Deloitte Philippines donated tablets for students and WiFi stipend for faculty members of Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) on March 16, 2021.
The two parties, led by PUP President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi and Deloitte Managing Partner & CEO Mr. Fredieric B. Landicho, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to formalize the partnership, which underscores Deloitte Philippines’ commitment to continuous education even during this challenging period. Also present during the signing were PUP Vice President for Student Affairs and Services (VPSAS) Dr. Zenaida B. Sarmiento, and Deloitte Philippines Tax and Corporate Services Principal and PUP alumnus Mr. Senen Quizon.
Under the MOA, Deloitte pledged to provide the university a total of 100 tablets for the use of PUP students during the period of remote learning; these tablets will then be surrendered to PUP for use in computer classrooms after the pandemic. Deloitte also provided a monthly stipend of P1,000 for 50 faculty members, whether full-time or part-time, to cover their WiFi connectivity for six months.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Quizon said the donation is part of “Deloitte’s World-class initiative to advance education and prepare people…for the jobs [of the] future.” Around the world, Deloitte professionals are organizing and working on CSR projects and initiatives to help underserved groups and communities gain the skills they need or get access to opportunities that will help them better compete during the Fourth Industrial Revolution. These efforts are part of the Deloitte network’s world-class ambition to impact 50 million lives by 2030.
President Muhi expressed his gratitude to Deloitte Philippines for this initiative and looks forward to more partnership opportunities in the interest of the Filipino youth.
