The Polytechnic University of the Philippines' College of Communication students were hailed as Gawad Quisumbing-Escandor Grand Winner in the 3rd Quisumbing-Escandor Film Festival for Health on February 10, 2018 at RCBC Plaza, Makati City.
Among 25 finalists, Fourth Year Broadcast Communication Student Leia Reyna Pasumbal’s ‘Comfort Room’ emerged as the grand winner.
'Comfort Room' is a film about a person suffering from depression and how this person comforted someone who is about to commit suicide.
The theme of the festival centered on “Tagu-taguan, Maliwanag Ang Buwan” symbolizing the mental health situation in the Philippines. Over 75 entries from different cities and provinces in the Philippines were submitted to the said festival.
Meanwhile, third year Broadcast Communication students bagged awards in the recently concluded Piling Obrang Vidyo held at the UP Cine Adarna, University of the Philippines - Diliman, Quezon City on January 27, 2018.
Among 21 finalists from eight schools, Angelo Joshua Amar's 'Pompoms' bagged the Best Narrative Film, Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Direction awards.
The same film was also recognized in the Adamson University's Realifim Festival on December 16, 2017. Pompoms was hailed as Best Screenplay and Best Film.
‘Pompoms’ is a fictional film about a kid named Lando who was a victim of child exploitation in Pagsanjan, Laguna. It was first previewed during the third Cinemaskom Film Festival at PUP on November 24, 2017.
