The Alumni Relations and Career Development Office (ARCDO) at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) recently hosted the first part of its annual Career Fest from March 13th to 15th, 2024, at the PUP Gymnasium. This event aimed to address various career-related concerns of attendees, particularly 3rd and 4th-year students, by providing access to industry partners and government institutions.
Featuring over 60 industry partners and four government institutions, including PhilHealth, SSS, Pag-IBIG, and PSA, the Career Fest catered to students’ needs for career advice, internship opportunities, and assistance with government-issued IDs. The event also included a Career Development Seminar/Orientation specifically tailored for 4th-year students, helping them prepare for their future careers.
One student, Jerry Mhie Jabilles, a 3rd-year Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) student, highlighted the importance of the Career Fest in providing internship opportunities that could significantly benefit students in their future job pursuits. Echoing his sentiments, Charles David Sevilla, another 3rd-year BSME student, expressed hope for more companies to participate in future Career Fest events, providing students with additional options and opportunities.
The Career Fest also received positive feedback from participating companies, alumni, and government institutions. Roxanne Sy Su, an HR Specialist at the Philippine National Bank (PNB) and PUP alumna, emphasized the event’s significance for both interns and future employees, praising PUP students for their dedication and hard work. Similarly, representatives from other companies, such as P&A Grant Thornton Philippines and Philippine Savings Bank (PS Bank), commended PUP students for their passion and work ethic, highlighting PUP as one of their preferred recruitment sources.
ARCDO Director Eng. Florindo Oquindo noted the overwhelming enthusiasm of participating companies to meet PUP students, underscoring the positive feedback received regarding the organization and professionalism of PUP students.
Looking ahead, PUP aims to leverage the success of the Career Fest to further enhance students’ employability and facilitate their transition from education to the workforce. With the second part of the Career Fest scheduled for September 2024, ARCDO anticipates an even larger turnout of companies, providing students with expanded opportunities for career development and growth.
The Career Fest would not have been possible without the support of its major partners, including Aboitiz Equity Ventures, ChinaBank, D&V Philippines, and others, as well as government agencies such as Pag-IBIG, PhilHealth, PSA, and SSS.
