The Polytechnic University of the Philippines - Mulanay, Quezon Branch launched a community pantry titled “Banggerahan sa PUP Mulanay,” inspired by the viral community pantry on April 21, 2021.

Banggerahan is a Spanish word meaning - kitchen extension, where food and utensils are kept. In Mulanay, banggerahan was a provincial term used by old folks to mean hanging shelves in the window of the kitchen, where food is kept. This word brought ideas and inspiration to PUP Malunay faculty and staff to organize a project inspired by the viral Maginhawa Community Pantry.

This initiative of PUP Mulanay’s faculty and staff is brought by their desire to help local farmers from Mulanay, Quezon to be able to sell their crops at a higher price and help their fellow Quezonians who struggle in their everyday life because of the pandemic.

Partner farmers were the beneficiaries of cycle two of the Techo-Gabay Organic Farming Program of PUP through Salin-Kalaaman Program of PUP Extension Management Office.

Dr. Mercy Manalo, Branch Designee Faculty Extensionist of PUP Mulanay shared how the idea of buying the crops and products of the beneficiary farmers came to mind.

The Banggerahan only took two days to be carried out and set.

PUP Mulanay Director Adel Roadilla said that aside from giving free food items to people, they also help farmers by buying their crops. "We have a cause: to help the farmers we trained to earn by buying their crops higher than the market price...Hanggat my farmers na nagbebenta, bibilhin namin at ipapamigay," Director Rodialla added.

Banggerahan sa PUP Mulanay is open to the public every Monday and Wednesday.
