Another career development initiative for the Iskolar ng Bayan!
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with global supply chain services company APLL Global Business Services (GBS) Philippines, Inc., May 19 at Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
The partnership centered on providing on-the-job training (OJT) opportunities for students and bridging the gap between the academe and the industry. Under the MOA, career-centered programs such as internships, student immersions, and exchange of knowledge activities for students, faculty, and staff, will be conducted. APLL-GBS will also participate in University activities such as Career Talk, Mock Recruitment, and Job Fair.
“A welcome development” Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Prof. Tomas O. Testor expressed his anticipation for this new endeavor. Calling it “a welcome development”, he highlighted that the company’s reputation for employing talented and engaging employees offers a perfect environment for PUPians to engage in experiential learning and become career-ready.
Testor hopes that this association will pave the way for further collaborations, particularly in providing scholarship and financial assistance to the students and possibly helping APLL-GSB in implementing their corporate social responsibility programs.
“A forward-thinking partnership” Center Head of the Manila APLL-GBS Services Emmelie B. Garcia shared the company’s eagerness for a “dynamic and forward-thinking partnership” and looks forward in exploring more opportunities beyond the agreed OJT’s and bridging the gap between the academe and industry, particularly on talent acquisitions.
She emphasized that their interest in joining with the University stemmed from their belief in the resilience, the passion to contribute, and drive of graduates from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs). According to Garcia, they look for individuals who are authentic, assertive, well-articulated, accountable, and tenacious—qualities she found in PUPians.
The strength of the PUPians APLL-GBS employees and PUP alumni—HR Business Partner Donna Lyn Celmar and Supervisor Anna Vanessa Calvo—attested that these values, along with the courage to face challenges and willingness to accept constructive criticism, were instilled in them by the Sintang Paaralan.
“Do not give up” was Calvo’s advice to PUP students, encouraging them to face every trial head-on, as the outcomes will be crucial to their future.
Joining Garcia and Testor during the MOA signing were APLL-GBS’s Senior Specialist in HR Business Partnering Maria Theresa A. Vega, HR Manager Sedney W. Besas, and PUP’s Alumni Relations and Career Development Office (ARCDO) representatives: Career Development and Placement Services Chief Assoc. Prof. Jane S. Pulma and Alumni Relations Services Chief Dr. Emeteria Leonila A. Perez.
With this new venture with APLL-GBS Philippines, the University reiterates its commitment to providing career development opportunities for students—helping them grow from learners into professionals.
