As face-to-face classes commence this semester, student organizations are also back in full swing. PUP Radio Engineering Circle was recently named the Continental Leader in Oceania in the 63rd All-Asian DX Contest CW. The title was given last June 18-19, 2022, which saw the participation of 1,787 stations from different parts of the world.
Operating on radio club callsign DZ1PUP, Radio Engineering Circle is an accredited university-wide organization and the official amateur radio club of PUP. The students showcased their exceptional skills and expertise in radio communication, garnering 8,938 points from its 111 morse code radio contacts with amateur radio stations all over Asia.
Student radio operators come from PUP Main Campus and Taguig Branch. These are Raymond Lester C. Asbatal, Joseph Ian P. Macatangay, Jerico Bryle C.L ajato, and Julaima D. Pijano, fourth-year Electronics and Communications Engineering students; as well as fourth-year Industrial Engineering students: Erika L. Tengco, Francheska Arimla Mosende, and Kimberly C. Genavia, all from the Main Campus. Representatives from Taguig include Kamilah Joie M. Cabra, a first year Information Technology student, and Jemima Grace M. Baculio, third year Marketing Management student.
“We are proud to represent Polytechnic University of the Philippines and to showcase our skills in the All-Asian DX Contest CW. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our members, and we hope to continue this winning streak in the future,” Engr. Gerhard P. Tan, adviser of the Radio Engineering Circle shared in an interview.
The Radio Engineering Circle has been an active participant in various amateur radio contests and has consistently proven their mettle in the field. Being named the Continental Leader in Oceania is an impressive feat that further cements their position as one of the most skilled and reliable student amateur radio clubs in the Philippines.
This latest accomplishment is a source of inspiration not only for the university but for the entire amateur radio community in the Philippines. Their dedication to their craft and their ability to communicate effectively and efficiently serves as an excellent example for future generations of amateur radio enthusiasts.
