The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) continues to demonstrate its national competence, maintaining its 14th position among 229 universities in the country based on EduRank’s 2025 rankings released on March 2. They also ranked 2,022nd out of 5,840 in Asia, 5,516th out of 14,131 globally, and 3,200th out of 3,540 in the field of Communications and Public Relations.
EduRank is an independent and metric-based ranking organization that evaluates universities worldwide based on research publications and citations, non-academic standing, and the impact of recognized alumni. For PUP, its high ranking is primarily attributed to its research output of 984 academic publications, 2,391 citations, its non-academic reputation, and the prominence of its 15 notable alumni.
Additionally, the University ranked 5,150th out of 32,000 higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Webometrics January 2025 global ranking. Educational institutions were evaluated based on both webometric and bibliometric indicators, which consider the web content’s visibility and impact on different web publications such as Majestic, Google Scholar, and ScimagoScopus, measured by external links (site citations).
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, or simply known as Webometrics, is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of Spain’s largest public research body, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) where it provides “an independent, objective, free, and open scientific exercise every six months to offer reliable, multidimensional, updated, and useful information about the performance of HEIs worldwide.”
With these recognitions, alongside the recent and notable recognitions given by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2025, the 2024 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) rankings, and the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, PUP continues to be recognized as one of the leading HEIs in the Philippines and underscores its commitment to promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its institutional programs. It increases the visibility and reputation of the institution and fosters competition and innovation, a testament to PUP’s dedication to becoming a globally excellent institution and be the leading comprehensive polytechnic university in Asia.
