Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) had the honor of hosting a visit by a distinguished delegation from Guangzhou Railway Polytechnic (GRP) on October 18, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to explore potential collaborations and strengthen the ties between the two institutions.
The GRP delegation was led by Ma Renting, the President of GRP. Other members of the delegation included Tan Zhuqin, Dean of the School of Foreign Language and Commerce; Zheng Lefan, Deputy Dean of the School of Information Engineering; Xiang Chengjun, Deputy Dean of the Department of International Cooperation; and Chen Peizhu, a teacher from the School of Locomotive and Rolling Stock.
Representing PUP Open University System were Dr. Carmencita L. Castolo, Dr. Evangelina S. Seril, Dr. Rosemariebeth R. Dizon, Dr. Desserie M. Blanco, Dr. Jerielyn V. Reyes, Prof. Mark Christian Catapang, and Prof. Mary Grace T. Cabrido. The Office of International Affairs was represented by Dr. Jonna Karla C. Bien, Prof. Charlon Agos, Prof. Felicitas Trinidad, Prof. Zaila Decin, Prof. Rochelle Murao, and Prof. Marianne Enguerra. The College of Engineering was represented by Dr. Remedios G. Ado, Engr. Ramir Cruz, and Engr. Kenneth Bryan Tana.
A sharing session and discussion on potential collaborations took place, allowing the delegates to explore various areas of mutual interest. The existing collaboration on Chinese Language Training, which had been successfully implemented three times, was reviewed. The delegates expressed their appreciation for the partnership and the positive impact it has had on PUP students and faculty. One of the potential collaborations discussed was the establishment of a training program on railway programs, which would provide valuable knowledge and skills to students interested in this field.
Guangzhou Railway Polytechnic’s visit to PUP marked a significant step towards fostering international collaborations and strengthening academic partnerships. Both institutions expressed their enthusiasm for further exploring and developing the proposed initiatives, which hold great potential for enhancing the educational experiences of students and faculty.
PUP looks forward to future collaborations with GRP and is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead, particularly in the field of railway-related programs. The visit served as a testament to the commitment of both institutions in promoting academic excellence and global engagement.
